Play On a Midsummer’s Day
The Free Will Players are dedicated to inspiring young people through the stories of Shakespeare. Camp Shakespeare’s mission is to take the Bard’s plays off the page, out of the heads and into the hearts and bodies of our students.
Under the tent at the Heritage Amphitheatre in Hawrelak Park, students will learn the basics of stage fighting and acting, and meet with the professional artists that make the Festival possible. Students will walk the boards just as Shakespeare intended: outdoors! This is a truly unique summer camp for students in Grades 4-12.
Led by theatre instructors, students will explore the story, text, characters and themes of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream through games, improvisation, movement exercises and music. Each class will be visited by the professional actors, designers, and directors from the Freewill Shakespeare Festival.
Each class will receive instruction on basic Stage Fighting from a professional fight choreographer.
Each student will rehearse, play and perform for family and friends on the Heritage Amphitheatre Mainstage.
Each student gets in FREE to see one performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the 2014 Freewill Shakespeare Festival: plus two extra tickets for family members (valued at over $60).
Registrations will begin in spring 2014.
